Recteq Bullseye Review (Tips, Problems, And Opinions) (1)

The Recteq Bullseye review showed me that it is a simple version pellet grill and not really a set-and-forget pellet smoker because it lacks the sophisticated controller that comes with the other models and about every other pellet grill on the market.

Update May, 2024: The newer version comes with a PID controller. A major update.

If you don’t mind keeping a little closer look at your Recteq bullseye grill and adjusting the settings once in a while this can be a great pellet grill for a very affordable price.

“I try to be as complete as I can in this review of the Bullseye and hope to answer all the questions you and I have about this affordable pellet grill.”

Grill surface of the Recteq Bullseye

The grill surface of the Bullseye is a whooping 380 square inches and this is enough to load it with about 25 hamburgers.

The round grill grate is very stable and I had to do some reading to find the material but it is made of porcelain-coated steel, my favorite.

Material of the grate

Compare to other pellet grills that are most of the time rectangular in shape the RT-B380 Bullseye with its round grill surface is a little different.
The total grill surface is 380 square inches and with the rule of thumb that you need 72 square inches per person, you can cook a full meal for 5 – 6 people.

For just burgers, hot dogs, or steak you can, of course, put a lot more on there.

Features of the Bullseye

It is always nice to have some of the main features on spot. I will look at some other features more in-depth later in the part where I give my opinion about the Recteq grills bullseye.

  • Porcelain-enameled cooking chamber
  • Porcelain-coated grates
  • 22″ lid with thermometer
  • Flame reflector for even heat
  • Weights 55 Lbs
  • 120 Volts
  • Rubber wheels
  • Bottom shelf
  • 15-pound hopper

Customer Reviews of the Recteq Bullseye

One of the few places where I get most of my ideas on how to rate a grill is on the consumer website, forums, and Facebook groups.

Since the rt-b380 bullseye wood pellet grill is not that long available it was not easy to find out a lot but here is what I found doing my Rec Tec bullseye grill review.

The Recteq bullseye assembly seems to be a little hard to do and I found about 20% of complaints about that.

I found people who love it and on the opposite side people who even sold it after using it a few times.

For grilling, it got some great comments and this is because it gets pretty hot. I do think it can even be compared to the separately sold Rec Tec pellet grill searing kit for the other models.

I read people using some infrared grilling grates in addition to the regular ones to improve searing with the bullseye.

Most comments found were on a review on the Amazing Ribs website where this grill got a bad review that a lot of readers did not agree with. More about that later.

Recteq Bullseye Review – My Opinion

After doing the Recteq Bullseye review and trying to find all the information all over the internet I can only come to the conclusion that it is a nice low-end and low-priced pellet grill.

Smoking on low and slow seems to be hard to do because of the simple temperature controller. However, the latest controller update to PID seem to have taking care of that.

This older one is basically the type of controller you found on the older models as the Traegers had.

Recently all pellet smokers and that includes the Recteq grill reviews I did come with digital controllers that measure the temperature in the smoker and adjust the speed of the auger and in that way the temperature.

The Bullseye Recteq pellet grill, on the other hand, comes with fixed settings and you have to find the setting that you need for the desired temperature and maybe adjust it depending on the temperature outside.

it comes highly recommended for searing and grilling because it gets hot. Recteq claims 550 °F (287°C) but I read that it can go up to 600°F (315°C)degrees Fahrenheit.

There are some mixed opinions about the Recteq Bullseye assembly and there are people who say that you need two people for it. Others mentioned that it was fairly easy to assemble.

There is no smokestack or chimney on the lid. There is however a small bracket that you can use to keep the lid a little bit open for airflow.

I also read that if you use the Recteq bullseye searing kit it is easier to get some nice crosshatch grill marks.

The reflector works well and you can put a pan under it and still get direct heat from the firepot.

I don’t know where the fight between Recteq and amazing ribs comes from but they stated that one of the Rec Tec Bullseye problems is that smoke gets back in the hopper and can start a fire.

I have not found anyone else that can confirm this claim up to now. They have maybe not used the spacer in the lid.

What I would take with a grain of salt are all the great reviews on the Recteq website. I read on forums that people tried to leave low reviews there and they never showed up.

Overall I think that if you know about the pros, cons, and limitations of this pellet grill you can cook some great meat.

Recommendations After Doing The Recteq Bullseye Review

I can only advise you to get some type of searing grate.
I have read people using a spare Char-Broil infrared grate with great success and other ones added the Rec Teq searing kit.

Bullseye Grill Cover

For every grill, I always recommend a quality grill cover. I found this one for the Bullseye.

Tips from real Bullseye users

I could not find too many tips or ideas to improve the Bullseye besides that sear-grate I mentioned above. As soon as I find some I will add them here.

As you can see I am a big fan of the Recteq grills and I have them high on my wishlist.
