In 2023, I decided to finally buy a Beachwaver curling iron and see if it was truly as good as my social media feeds and the brand told me it would be. This rotating curling iron fascinated me and I wanted to see if it was any better than any other curling irons I’ve tried. I have been using it for about 6 months now and I have learned several things about the Beachwaver. Read on to learn what I think of my Beachwaver Multi Barrel Curling Iron.
What is a Beachwaver?
First things first, if you don’t know what a Beachwaver is or why it’s unique, here is the scoop. The Beachwaver is a curling iron that rotates in order to curl your hair. This is something that is important for those that don’t have great dexterity in their wrists (many people, including hair stylists that use a curling movement a lot, have wrist issues!) or great for those with really long hair. Beachwaver is actually a brand too, and they have lots of cool products that I’ve tested over the past year.
Beachwaver Brand Diversity Needs Work
I do wish their marketing was a bit more diverse. I currently do not see them featuring anyone using it that appears to be older in age, which is a bit sad because their product would fit in well with a mature audience or anyone with with wrist or arm issues. They currently seem to be focused on only marketing to college age women. They also do not have any hair models with a various hair types or ethnicity and they do not have a variety of genders in their marketing.
I reached out to them on several platforms about their collaborations, their ambassador program and some other things and never heard back. Their social media people are fairly active, their products are good and their marketing is strong, but their diversity isn’t quite there yet.
I’ll be keeping an eye on their diversity, as if a brand doesn’t grow up with me and the world, I often depart from it. Consumers are getting smarter and smarter, and brands need to notice what their consumers need and want on all levels to truly be a long term success.
Who Founded Beachwaver?
The Beachwaver company is female founded, and the inventor of the original Beachwaver, Sarah Potempa, went to NYU and received her degree in Business and Creativity. Her co-founder, Erin, is her sister and a former lawyer that quit her job to help Sarah with the Beachwaver brand. Their creative director, Sarah and Erin’s sister, Emily, is also on board with the brand and expanding its customer reach. Talk about a supportive group of sisters!
Is the Beachwaver Worth It?
So, here’s the nitty gritty of my finds with using a Beachwaver curling iron for 6 months. It’s actually a really great curling iron. I have used several of their products, including their Braid Balm and a cute little bun maker, since 2023 and have been impressed with them all.
Yes, there are other rotating curling irons on the market that are cheaper, and while I can’t speak to how good those are, I do like the consistent results of my Beachwaver Multi Barrel curling iron. The multi barrel tool reminded me of one of my first multi barrel curling iron I had as a pre-teen. I did great using that one, so I know this would be a great tool for beauty-loving beginners too.

I bought a Chi rotating Spin N Curl device in 2022 and it was good (here’s my YouTube video tutorial of me using it), but I actually like the Beachwaver better. Why? Because my Beachwaver curling iron always makes my hair look shiny and not dried out. I’m thinking it’s something to do with the heat levels, even though both have adjustable heat levels. The Beachwaver Multi-Barrel tool that I tested has three heat ranges:
Low: 290 degrees (F)
Medium: 350 degrees (F)
High: 410 degrees (F)

I also think the Beachwaver does well because it has a ceramic rotating barrel. I have used metal curling irons for years, but never a ceramic one. Maybe it’s not the ceramic that makes my hair shiny after using it, but maybe it is. I like the adjustable temperatures and Medium does great to curl my thick, long, aging, and color-treated/highlighted hair. I also love that I can clamp my hair in it, push the little directional arrow buttons and the iron rotates my hair around it. It’s just plainly easy to use.

Beachwaver has many, many sales, so if you can grab one on sale, it’s even better. They currently sell on TikTok Shop (it always has great sales there), Amazon, at Walmart, and more.
My Beachwaver, the Multi Barrel, is also on Amazon, but I did buy mine directly from Beachwaver, as it was on waitlist only at the time and it wasn’t available on Amazon. Now it is and you can check it out here. The brand had a hard time fulfilling my order on time but did stay in communication with me, told me it would be worth the wait, and well, it was.
My Beachwaver tool came with three different barrels. I bought this one because I truly could not decide which size barrel I wanted. The Multi Barrel tool was nice because it came with three different types of barrels, the Curly Cone, the Classic Barrel, and the Mega Cone. Here are my results using each one.
The Classic Barrel
The Classic Barrel is the most popular Beachwaver size and if you don’t want to get the multi barrel tool like me, I’d buy a Beachwaver with this barrel size. I find myself using this barrel the most often.
It’s a 1-inch straight wand and truly does create classic waves. It’s a great every day curl that can give you Hollywood looking glamorous waves if you brush them out, or you can leave the curls tighter, which is a cute style too. I used this barrel to curl my ponytail for a Barbie-like hairstyle. I also used a Roll & Go Hair Tool to achieve my curled under bangs.
For long waves, I will often part my hair in the center, and curl my hair away from my face. This is easy to do with the curling iron being able to rotate it in different directions. I simply clamp the end of my hair into the barrel, push the button, it rotates my hair around it, I leave it curling for about 30 seconds, then either rotate it out of my hair using the button or my wrist and I get a perfect curl.
No, you do not have to use the rotating function if you don’t want to. You can clamp it in your hair and roll your hair around the barrel if you want to.

The Mega Cone
The Mega Cone is the largest barrel in my set. It tapers from a 1.5 base to a 1” top. It’s a looser wave of a curl and looks great if you want a more natural looking curl.
I don’t find myself using this as often as the Classic Barrel, but it does give my hair a nice relaxed curl style.

The Curly Cone
The Curly Cone is a smaller tapered cone that the Mega Cone. It tapers from a 1” base to a 0.5” top. I like this barrel when I want really small waves. Currently living in Florida with a lot of humidity, I often have a hard time keeping curls in my hair.
This cone actually works in my favor on the high humidity days as I’ll start off the day with a tight curl and then it loosens to a beautiful mermaid wave and I like that.

If you are on the fence about getting a Beachwaver product or not, I hope I was able to clarify some things for you. I bought my tool and haven’t regretted it at all. Now, time will tell on how long it will last as many tech-y products aren’t quite built to last anymore, but so far, so good.
Of course, all hair types are different, so I can only speak to my own results. My curls last all day when I use my Beachwaver longer than most other irons and curlers I’ve used. They fall out a bit, but I don’t use tons of hairspray or lots of styling products. If you find your curls falling out of your hair quickly, you could try increasing the temperature if you can. I use the medium heat setting and it works for me.
My Dyson Airwrap Styler does pretty good at curling my hair too. Weather, hair type, overall hair heath and more affects how long curls hold, so keep that in mind when using any hair tool.
