“103…105…107!”
You adjusted the large duffel bag hanging over your shoulder, and smiled up at the dormitory door with the same number as your little slip of paper.
“Home sweet home..” you thought, pushing the door open.
Freshman year, a new school, a new home, 40,000 dollars of debt, a new start. You were excited to start this new chapter of your life. High school had been hell for you, but now you were on your own, and have any opportunity you could reach for! If you were brave enough to grasp it, that is.
The room was small, two twin sized beds on either side of a standard window. Two tables, two chairs, one closet. Yikes. Lucky enough you didn’t have a lot of clothes.
You began unpacking your things, wondering what your roommate would be like.

You were setting out your bedspread on the twin sized mattress, almost completely unpacked, when you heard a pair of muffled voices on the other side of your door.
“-Can carry a few bags on my ow- oh!”
A black and red haired girl entered the room, a few tote bags slung over her shoulders, partially covering an immaculately fashionable outfit. Her large pink eyes turning from behind her towards you. She made eye contact and smiled brightly.
“Hey! You must be my roommate! See Tanjiro I told you this hall wasn’t co-ed”
As she stepped deeper into the room, a mahogany haired man stepped into view from the hallway, hauling a large amount of bags on his back. His green hoodie hung loosely over his broad shoulders and as his warm eyes met yours, he smiled wide and chuckled bashfully, looking back to the younger girl.
“Heh, you seem to be right Nezuko.. I’m sorry.”
When his gaze returned to you, you blushed, quickly realizing you were just standing there staring at the two.
“I-oh! Hey.. it’s nice to meet you, I’m ____”
“___? Nice to meet you too. I’m Nezuko. That’s my older brother, Tanjiro”
“Nice to meet you. I’m a student here too, second year. So if you guys ever need something, I live just next to campus as well.”
You smiled, nodding. “Thank you! That’s good to know..uhm. I.. I uh, have to run and grab a few more bags.. you guys go ahead and unpack, I’ll try to stay out of the way.”
You awkwardly tried to excuse yourself. Even though this was a new chapter for you, you were still unfortunately the same character. Socializing with strangers was still… very difficult.
“Oh, do you need help? I can carry a few things!” The red haired man offered, once again sharing a kind smile with you.
“Uh.. I got it, thank you.”
You ducked out of the room and speed walked down the hallway, until you were in the stairwell.
‘Why was he being so kind!?!?’
You swear. It’s like meeting a golden retriever that became a person. And my god was he handsome! His sister was so pretty too; you were certain half of those bags were clothes. It was a casual outfit and yet she still exuded so much style, she was like a j-pop idol!
You were in no rush to return to the dorm, taking your sweet time to get your remaining bags.

“Do you think she’s ok? She seemed nervous.”
Nezuko looked at her older brother with a raised eyebrow and a small smile. “What do you think? She’s probably just a little shy.”
“Oh, heh.”
Tanjiro began helping his little sister unpack, dropping the mountain of heavy bags onto the floor for the two of them to sort through. His mind wandered to you.
You were quite pretty, that’s for sure. You seemed nice, and he felt really bad if he had made you feel more shy on accident. He only wanted to help! He wondered about you, about what your personality was like, if you’d get along well with his baby sister. What do girls even do together? He supposed every night would be a sleepover. Did you like food as much as Nezuko? You didn’t seem like as much of a fashionista as her, but he could be wrong..
After 15 minutes had past, he looked over his shoulder. “Hey.. where’d that girl go?”
“Hm, it has been a while. Do you wanna go look for her?”
“I should, maybe she had trouble with her bags.”
Just as he was standing up to go find you, the door handle jostled, and you entered back into the room.
“-oh! Welcome back! I was just about to go looking for you.”
You were holding a few bags in your arms, just stepping through the threshold. Blushing, you responded.
“Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to make you worry.. I was just taking my time..”
“It’s more than ok! I’m glad you’re alright.”
Tanjiro smiled brightly at you, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. “I am part of the campus student security team.. so if you ever do run into trouble, I’m more than happy to help.”
Nezuko smiled and looked from her brother to you, back to Tanjiro.
“I think we’ll be ok from here.. thank you, Tanjiro.”
“Alright, I’ll see you around.”
He gave his sister a quick hug, and a polite smile and nod to you, before heading out the door.
‘I hope I’ll see her more..’
